Apple today introduced iPad, a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more. iPads responsive high-resolution Multi-Touch display lets users physically interact with applications and content. iPad is just 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook. iPad includes 12 new innovative apps designed especially for the iPad, and will run almost all of the over 140,000 apps in the App Store. iPad will be available in late March starting at the breakthrough price of just $499.
iPad is our most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price, said Steve Jobs, Apples CEO. iPad creates and defines an entirely new category of devices that will connect users with their apps and content in a much more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before.
iPad features 12 next-generation Multi-Touch applications. Every app works in both portrait and landscape, automatically animating between views as the user rotates iPad in any direction. The precise Multi-Touch interface makes surfing the web on iPad an entirely new experience, dramatically more interactive and intimate than on a computer. Reading and sending email is fun and easy on iPads large screen and almost full-size soft keyboard. Import photos from a Mac®, PC or digital camera, see them organized as albums, and enjoy and share them using iPads elegant slideshows. Watch movies, TV shows and YouTube, all in HD or flip through pages of an e-book you downloaded from Apples new iBookstore while listening to your music collection.
iPad runs almost all of the over 140,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone or iPod touch. The iTunes Store gives you access to the worlds most popular online music, TV and movie store with a catalog of over 11 million songs, over 50,000 TV episodes and over 8,000 films including over 2,000 in stunning high definition video. Apple also announced the new iBooks app for iPad, which includes Apples new iBookstore, the best way to browse, buy and read books on a mobile device. The iBookstore will feature books from major and independent publishers.
Apple also introduced a new version of iWork for iPad, the first desktop-class productivity suite designed specifically for Multi-Touch. With Pages, Keynote and Numbers you can create beautifully formatted documents, stunning presentations with animations and transitions, and spreadsheets with charts, functions and formulas. The three apps will be available separately through the App Store for $9.99 each.
iPad syncs with iTunes just like the iPhone and iPod touch, using the standard Apple 30-pin to USB cable, so you can sync all of your contacts, photos, music, movies, TV shows, applications and more from your Mac or PC. All the apps and content you download on iPad from the App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore will be automatically synced to your iTunes library the next time you connect with your computer.
iPads brilliant 9.7-inch, LED-backlit display features IPS technology to deliver crisp, clear images and consistent color with an ultra-wide 178 degree viewing angle. The highly precise, capacitive Multi-Touch display is amazingly accurate and responsive whether scrolling web pages or playing games. The intelligent soft keyboard pioneered on iPhone takes advantage of iPads larger display to offer an almost full-size soft keyboard. iPad also connects to the new iPad Keyboard Dock with a full-size traditional keyboard.
iPad is powered by A4, Apples next-generation system-on-a-chip. Designed by Apple, the new A4 chip provides exceptional processor and graphics performance along with long battery life of up to 10 hours.* Apples advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging technology deliver up to 1,000 charge cycles without a significant decrease in battery capacity over a typical five year lifespan.
iPad comes in two versionsone with Wi-Fi and the other with both Wi-Fi and 3G. iPad includes the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi, and the 3G versions support speeds up to 7.2 Mbps on HSDPA networks. Apple and AT&T announced breakthrough 3G pre-paid data plans for iPad with easy, on-device activation and management.
Continuing Apples dedication to designing and creating environmentally responsible products, each iPad enclosure is made of highly recyclable aluminum and comes standard with energy-efficient LED-backlit displays that are mercury-free and made with arsenic-free glass. iPad contains no brominated flame retardants and is completely PVC-free.
Apple today released a new Software Development Kit (SDK) for iPad, so developers can create amazing new applications designed to take advantage of iPads capabilities. The SDK includes a simulator that lets developers test and debug their iPad apps on a Mac, and also lets developers create Universal Applications that run on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Bash it and trash it all you want guys, hate it or love it!!! But rest assure that when this thing hits the store, people will be flocking like seagulls to grab one...This is just an initial product to test out the water and I'm sure a few tweaks and adjustments will be made as the iPad has all the potential for improvement just like the other Apple products.
ROFL, I said it long ago, it's a big iPod and no I don't work for Mapple, lol, I guess everyone at camp MS must have been laughing their asses off after hearing and seeing all this bc presentation....also I said it, no Verizon phone, is plain logic, Verizon is CDMA which is dead and also is just a US market, it makes no sense from any perspective to make a product that has a life span so short (Verizon will move to GSM by the end of this year), it will be too costly and the money will not come back to either Mapple nor Verizon, at least on that Mapple was smart, on the other part, ROFL...I'm not gonna say anything more.... X)
i'll wait for the HP slate at least that will be more computer like with touch screen and multi tasking with usb and hdmi connections and it will have flash on it with a serious storage for something that it's suppose to be a touchscreen tablet and not just a big ipod touch. thanks but no thanks apple i think i got better ways to waste my money i'll look elsewhere thank you this is what happens when lazying thinking at a company takes hold OHHH THE BIGGEST THING AGAINST THIS IS AT@T STILL IS IN THE PICTURE THEY CAN"T HANDLE THE IPHONES ON IT"S NETWORK WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WHEN THIS HITS IT THEY WON"T COMPLETELY COME CRASHING DOWN. HAD YOU JUST HAD VERIZON BEING IT'S MAIN BACKER THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN SAVED BUT YOU GOT AT@T HOLDING THE CARDS THAT'S A NO SALE SORRY I'll Be waitting if you drop the bal again with the iphone i'll be moving on to droid or the new zune phone coming out.
hahahahaha ipad lol at least they named it right after they rape you and leave you bleeding you'll need a pad as they leave you too their buddy at@t to play with you.
Just for the record I predict this to be the worst product Apple has come up with and it will fail and be discontinued in less than 2 years. (Unless the OS, Services and Prices are dramatically changed.)
They were doing SO well too, they seemed to have a good streak going on with the iPhones, iPod Touch and Nanos.. not to mention improving the whole Macbook and iMac line.. And now comes the iPad.. I think Apple might see their stock start to slip after this one, haha
Want to know what happened? Apple didnt listen to the customer once again and could of spent a lot more time into making this better than the Kindle or Windows Tablets. At least Microsoft doesnt offer their Zune OS to Tablet makers like HP. Apple will fall flat on their face with this one folks.
Just becoz ppl liked iphone and ipod, you cannot develop a bigger ipod touch and sell it as if it is something from a different galaxy. this one beats the paid appstore app that shows only adds. :D.hahaa.
Apple obviously created this iPad to rival Amazon and Sony's e-book devices not to kill the traditional Macbook pro etc..Also in the economy he was playing it safe with $499USD models. If it were a really bad-ass system expect starting price $999USD. I'm sure they are all ready working on a really cool itablet system that can rival notebooks--it's in the works.
Is this really what everyone was looking forward to? what a piece of trash... It is just a big iPhone, minus the phone! Can anybody honestly tell me with a straight face that they could justify paying $500 for this??
I completely agree. It doesn't seem to do anything particularly well. You're not likely to leave your iPhone and Macbook (Pro) behind on a holiday because you have an iPad. iPad= I'd pass
For me however, the big disappointment today was the lack of news about iPhone 4.0.
I agree with you on that, Telia. I was so sure they were going to announce a 4.0 firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch.. I can't help but feel letdown.
