Apple has announced a new 'Smart Keyboard' that also functions as a cover for the new iPad Pro.

Its top layer is made from a sheet of highly durable custom-woven fabric that’s laser ablated to form the shape of each key. The fabric provides the spring-like tension for each key, eliminating conventional mechanisms. The Smart Keyboard is just 4 mm thin but is designed to deliver the accuracy, stability, and satisfying key feel you expect.

Features:
● 64 seamless keys.
Unlike traditional keyboards, there are no gaps between keys. And it’s coated in a water‑ and stain‑resistant finish, so the Smart Keyboard is resistant to stains and spilling.

● Three layers of ingenuity
Just like the Smart Cover, the top layer is made of durable polyurethane and the bottom layer is a soft microfiber lining, which protects the screen and keeps it clean when the Smart Keyboard is folded. The middle layer is what makes the Smart Keyboard truly advanced. It’s composed of a new conductive fabric material that ensures seamless communication between iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard.

● Smart Connector
he Smart Connector is a new Apple‑designed interface that allows seamless communication between the Smart Keyboard and iPad Pro. You’ll find it on the connecting edge of the Smart Keyboard as well as on the side of iPad Pro. The Smart Connector works hand in hand with the conductive fabric inside the Smart Keyboard to allow for a two‑way exchange of power and data.

● Onscreen Shortcut Bar
Bold, italicize, or underline — even copy and paste — with just a couple of taps. The Shortcut Bar can also be customized for third‑party apps, so the tools you need are always right where you need them.

Except you can't hold down most keys like a physical keyboard like shift and a letter, ctrl alt, etc.

The images show the keyboard working in BOTH landscape and portrait mode, but those dimensions are different. Can users purchase the one they want, or can you use it either way? Designers, TV and film viewers will likely use landscape, while business types will prefer the portrait mode.

If it can somehow turn, it would be sold a lot more. That's what I call a 2-in-1 right there rather than slapping a physical keyboard on there. More foldable options, a keyboard and a case at the same time.
