Apple is the new leader in selling personal computers, notes Asymco analyst Horace Dediu.
Taking a look at personal computer shipments over the past four years, Dediu notes that we are seeing a renaissance in which tablets are becoming the personal computer of choice.
A change in perspective leads one to conclude that Apple is the new leader in selling personal computers. Maybe this charting is putting too fine a point on it, but the data is beginning to make evident that which has been perceived subjectively by only a few.
I dont understand how people count ipad as a personal computer. Can they play dvd on ipad? Can they plug a thumb drive into ipad? Do they type faster on ipad than on PC?

Can you play a DVD on a MacBook Air? Did PCs not exist before the DVD?

Yes, with the adapter (Apple Camera Connection Kit).

Typing speed defines a PC? Well, with a Bluetooth keyboard, I'd think the typing would be about the same speed.
Counting the iPad as a personal computer makes sense depending on what use you're going to have with that data. If one is looking at the significance of the computer vendors, it makes sense to count the iPad. If I'm thinking about designing a website to be IE only or Windows only, it's worth counting the iPad. If I'm an app developer I may consider that developing across OS X and iOS is pretty straight forward, while different, they're close enough to evaluate them as a whole as a potential customer base.
Obviously there are situations where it doesn't make sense to count iPads as personal computers, but there are more uses for the data to include iPads than there are to not include them.
I checked apple's website about Apple Camera Connection Kit. It said it read SD card, not a thumb drive. Anyway, according to what you said, shouldnt they count iphone as PC too?

Again, it depends. If your business is selling 3.5" Hard Drives with SATA connections, no, you shouldn't. But if you're wondering if you can get away with designing your website to only work with IE, then ya, you should consider the iPhone. If you're a chip fabricator, then Apple's iPhone business is just as important to you as the Mac, or any other PC. And again, if you're a software developer, you might look at OS X and iOS as pretty much being one platform (yes, they're different but if you can develop for one, you can develop for the other). I could come up with many reasons why you'd include them all in one survey, and situations where you'd want to exclude them. The reasons for including the iPad and not the iPhone would come down to looking at the number of people using an iPad as their main computing device as opposed to the iPhone being used secondarily as a personal computer.

Format the thumb drive as FAT32 (the default). Name all your jpegs exactly 8 characters with a .jpg extension. Put them in a folder on the thumb drive named DCIM.
There are tons of hacks that allow all kinds of things with thumb drives on an iPad, but that's one method for importing images from a thumb drive onto the iPad.
I could come up with many reasons why you'd include them all in one survey, and situations where you'd want to exclude them. << Like you said, with that many different situations, why a general chart for PC shipment/market share would include them? Will that be safer to exclude them? And without detail explanation of situation like you did, this chart is misleading and confuse people(at least confuse me). In my opinion, this chart is just to make Apple look good on PC shipment.

Yes That can be a problem with multi part frigues.I found out how difficult some of the pieces are when I was putting them together for a photo.The pieces fit perfect when they are in green form.After being put through multiple molds the perfect fit can go away.Even the act of pulling the hot piece from the mold can deform it enough to not fit perfect.I don't know when the new versions will be ready.The purchase of the line was not expected. Now I have to find time to work on the frigues.I will try to keep everyone updated on the blog.
