How to Change the Video Type of Your iTunes Media

These are instructions on how to set the type of your iTunes video media as Movies, Music Videos, or TV Shows.

If you important a video file into iTunes it will automatically be placed into the Movies category. This is fine if you have imported a movie; however, if the video file is a Music Video or TV Show you must modify the video type so that iTunes utilizes it correctly. Otherwise when trying to play a Movie from your AppleTV or iPhone you will notice that the Movies category is cluttered with video files that are not Movies.

Step One
Launch iTunes by clicking its icon in the dock

Step Two
Select Movies from the list of library categories on the left

Step Three
Locate a video that has been incorrectly placed in the Movie category then hold down the Control key and click it to bring up the context menu. From this menu click to select Get Info.

Step Four
Select the Options tab from the popup window that appears.

Step Five
Set the media type of the video using the Media Kind dropdown then click the OK button. In this example, I have selected Music Video as the correct Media Kind.

Step Six
Notice that the video has now left the Movies category and can be found in the Music category.
