Quasar Brings Multi-Tasking Windows to the iPad [Video]

Quasar Brings Multi-Tasking Windows to the iPad [Video]

Quasar, a new tweak just released in Cydia, is a multi-tasking window manager for the iPad.

Quasar is (the very first) window manager for iPad! Now you can run apps in windows, on your iPad! Simply open any application and it will be opened in a window, just like in your computer. Quasar is integrated to iOS's default app switcher (double pressing home button). Killing an application in app switcher (or holding the close button) kills its window and the application itself, but if you only click the close button, the window is closed but the application keeps running in background (in the app switcher).

It is integrated too with notification center and with Safari/App Store/YouTube/links that opens other apps. iPhone applications are optimized to run in the right resolution in Quasar.

You can purchase Quasar from the Cydia Store for $9.99. Take a look at the video below to see the tweak in action.

I downloaded the update just now and I think Pedro fixed most of the issues I described earlier, especially the squashing (he calls it stretching) of windows in Landscape mode. Still some glitches with scrolling with some apps though. Really nice to have windows and to this end I'm very happy I have an iPad and not an Android tablet!

Yeah, I installed and ran it, but it ended up hanging my system, so I had to shut down the device and uninstall it. Not worth bothering with. It's a nice idea, but the implementation is bad, since it puts in another level before you can quit an application, making starting and stopping any app much more difficult. I'd avoid it if I were you.

The concept is very very nice but im sure like other cydia tweaks this one will also work with so many bugs and crashes most of the time, i always jailbreak and uses lots and lots of tweaks but then i endup restoring my devices to the orginal state, there is something bad in cydia tweaks and apps thats why apple never allow them in app store.

Apple doesn't let them in the app store because they do things that apple doesn't allow, not because they're buggy.

I've been using it since two days it came out. Nice apart from four major issues (v. 1.0.3): 1. Popup windows not displayed, and indeed sometimes freezing the entire iPad which needs a reset (e.g. popup asking you to rate an app) 2. Landscape windows frequently get squashed vertically to 1/2 its width (try landscape open-close-open app) 3. Bizarre scrolling and text selection behavior with many apps, because the iPad thinks your finger is somewhere else on the screen at certain screen coordinates 4. Sometimes the multitask bar and notification center moves to the side (left or right when you're holding the iPad landscape), as a result certain gestures in apps don't work anymore because it activates the Notification centre instead. I reported #2,3 to Pedro, at $9.9 I hope he's gonna fix it! Amy
