BTJunkie Torrent Search Engine Shuts Down

BTJunkie, a popular torrent search engine that featured the largest index of torrents on the web, has shut down.
A message on the site's homepage reads, "This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily shut down. We've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on. It's been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best! "
TorrentFreak notes that BTJunkie has never been involved in any legal action; however, the site became worried following the take down of MegaUpload and legal action taken against other sites.
While BTJunkie did let users search for files that were copyrighted, it also indexed many torrents that were perfectly legal, such as PwnageTool.
The owner of the site hopes there still is a future for torrent sites. "I really do hope so, the war is far from over for sure," he told TorrentFreak.
