X-Wave Soft has announced eXtra Voice Recorder 2.0 for OS X, a major update to their Productivity app that lets users easily record and organize audio files. Easily accessed via the menu bar, the app features: high-quality audio recording, Hot Key control, categorization and search tools for recordings, audio editing, adding comments, recording without pauses, audio markers, continuing previous recordings, emailing audio, meta tag notes, export to MP3 or AAC, and Dropbox compatibility. Mac OS X includes a rudimentary voice recording function, but eXtra Voice Recorder makes the recording, editing, and organizing processes so logical and convenient that voice recording truly becomes a practical and useful option. The app includes two features that are especially powerful. First, users can adjust the app to stop recording when they stop talking, eliminating long pauses. This VOX (Voice Operated Control) performs flawlessly and its sensitivity is continuously adjustable for recording in noisy environments.

Second, users can add several layers of text and subtext to help identify recordings, as well as content within recordings. Each recording can be given a Title, and there is a large text field, Description, with enough room for a detailed summary. Titles appear on a scrolling list that can be separated by Categories. Within the recording itself, users can click during or after recording to create a Marker, which brings up a yellow Note field. Titles, Descriptions, and Notes are all keyword searchable, making finding audio clips effortless.
