iTether is a new app that enables Internet tethering through your iPhone. Get it before it's pulled by Apple.
Tether is an application that allows your Mac and PC to take advantage of your smartphone's data plan, providing you access to the Internet on your laptop anywhere there is cellular coverage from your smartphone.
iTether will enable tethering for those who aren't on a tethered data plan or for those whose carriers do not enable the service. Beware that your carrier may tag on additional fees if they discover that you're doing this without paying for tethering.
Apple will likely remove this app soon. However, if you're quick, you can purchase iTether from the App Store for $14.99.
Wouldn't waste the money... In iOS 5.1 the option to setup a personal hotspot is available no matter the data plan you're on.
That's why the app is in the app store...
Unless apple desnt recieve a call from carriers that dont alow tethering without paying an extra 20$/2gb & 10$ per 2gb if going over, then it shouldnt b a problem. I was reading the comments on the app store an the app needs to connect to the server EVERYTIME u run the app meaning their servers are being slamered right now given that in the US tethering is not allowed without paying extra and it DOES NOT support multitasking. So if apple werent to pull it out i would personally give it a shot but i would know that there would b an update in the near future, which it seems it does desperately.
Since when do you need an app for that?
I just turned on personal hotspot and plugged the phone into my PC a couple of weeks ago when my broadband was down and it worked a treat.
I was about to say the same damn thing. It must be American carriers that don't allow this, I've never had a provider here in Canada deny my iPhones in tethering
This isn't about allowing tethering or not. Carriers will allow you to turn on tethering/hotspot, although usually for a price and change in data plan. This will let you sneak in some tether usage without paying for it. If you overdo it, they'll notice your usage and switch you automatically.
