Apple may have purchased iCloud.com from Xcerion for $4.5 million, according to a GigaOm report.
Until recently, iCloud.com was a domain name and a storage-as-a-cloud service owned by Linkoping, Sweden-based desktop-as-a-service company, Xcerion. Xcerions iCloud service has just been rebranded to CloudMe, and the company acquired the CloudMe.com domain on April 5, 2011. My source, who is familiar with the company, says that Xcerion has sold the domain to Apple for about $4.5 million.
Recent reports have said that Apple has completed the technical side of its cloud locker and is just finalizing licensing agreements before launching the service. iCloud.com would definitely be a fitting domain for Apple to launch the service on.
More of the cloud race. It will be interesting to see where that ends up. I'm not sold on cloud computing for my use. I can see this being ok for bare bones users that only check their email and the internet. I would require way too much bandwidth and remote storage for this to be practical for my use
As mentioned in the video. The tecloohngy is built for the iPhone 4S. No where on the features page does it show Siri nor did they mention it with the iPod Touch at the event. Siri will probably be exclusive to the iPhone 4S because, it convinces people to go out and buy it.
