Boy Genius Switches Back to AT&T From Verizon

Boy Genius Switches Back to AT&T From Verizon

Posted March 16, 2011 at 8:47pm by iClarified
The Boy Genius Report has published an interesting article about their experiences with a Verizon iPhone. Jonathan S. Geller (aka Boy Genius) was ecstatic about the new Verizon iPhone only to discover that it didn't perform as well as he expected.

"In the end, my personal experience with Verizon’s iPhone in and around New York City ended up being about the same as it was when I was on AT&T. This, combined with other advantages AT&T’s network has, has made me finally decide to switch back. Literally moments before I wrote this article, I synced up my Verizon iPhone and restored it to my AT&T iPhone (I can do this because the OS on the Verizon iPhone is lower than the AT&T iPhone — if I ever wanted to switch back, I couldn’t restore my data until the Verizon iPhone OS is updated to version 4.3). I missed the ability to talk on the phone while data is still flowing (even though I hate talking on the phone). I missed AT&T’s extremely fast data speeds. I missed knowing that if I ever travel outside of the country, I don’t have to get a new phone (even though I hate flying — no, seriously, try me). I missed feeling like I’m in the digital age instead of the stone age."

Has your experience with Verizon's iPhone been better or worse than AT&T? Let us know in the comments!

Regarding T-mobile EDGE speeds: I tested my 3GS on T-Mobile against the Verizon iPhone 4 (in the Verizon store). Opened iclarified.com at the same time, and while the Verizon 3G connection was faster, it was a difference of about 1-2 seconds. I tried it multiple times (yahoo.com, weather.com) and all the same results. Also, tested my buddies ATT 3GS. Same results. Same reception on all devices. Honestly, I can put up with a slower connection for 70 a month unlimited everything. Sure beats my buddies $120 a month bill from ATT.

You will have to jailbreak and unlock your AT&T iPhone before using in other countries

Only of u want to use a different sim. You can make and receive calls just fine overseas with your AT&T sim installed. Just pay roaming of course...but it works fine. Verizon iPhone will not even pick up a roaming signal as far as I know.

good for you. And you are stuck with T-Mobile's EDGE speeds, aka 4kb/sec

Or maybe *Gasp* there are people that don't live in the United State that have iPhones. Is the concept that other countries exist really that hard for you to understand and remember?

Doesn't T-Mobile advertise a 4G network? Did they jump straight from Edge to 4G?

Since this article is about US cell providers, why would any one outside of the US post a comment?

T-Mobile doesn't use the same frequency that AT&T uses for their 3G services so if a person jailbreaks the AT&T iPhone and uses it on the T-Mobile network, the user will be limited to their edge services.

TY for the explanation. Sounds like AT&T has it in spades. Guess Apple knew what they were doing when they launched using them.
