Apple has released iOS 6, the latest version of its operating system, for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
This update contains over 200 new features, including all new Apple-designed Maps, Siri features, Facebook integration, Shared Photo Streams, Passbook, and more.
You can download and install iOS 6 by selecting Check for Update in iTunes, Software Update from your iOS Device, or using one of the direct links below...
Decent upgrade but i would really have loved options to toggle wifi, bluetooth and brightness right from the notifications tab. Seems like its something that should have been implemented back in ios 5 when notifications was first introduced.
New Apple Maps suck !! Tried searching for directions between 10 most common locations in my city mumbai and none worked. If Apple wasn't 100% ready with its maps then why didn't it stick to google maps ? Unfair to impose an incomplete map app on users.
I did the upgrade for my 4s. It seems a little slow. I love the new Siri features though. I also live the update to the maps app. Certain other apps are running slow however.
Today updated to iOS6 and now when I open an sms witch has been sent, for example, from internet web app or skype (message sender appears as my skype name), it shows empty sms. However, in message list I can see a little bit of the content. After opening this "empty" sms and returning to index - it doesnt show that SMS anymore. I had to hard-close messages app and re-open it to see it again but once you open it it goes blank again....
anyone know how to fix this?
thanks
Works great on iPhone 3GS even turn by turn navigation although Apple said it wasn't available for the 3GS.... It's silent, but directions work! No noticeable lag compared to 5.1.1 happy with it!
tried updating my 4S on 5.1.1 3 times now and everytime it gets close to downloading i get an error while updating. anyone else getting this? i dont wanna update through itunes because i dont feel like dealing with loosing stuff..
You need to turn off any redirect for Apple in the HOSTS file (Windows). If that's not the problem, check for a firewall problem. It usually takes me a couple of tries before I can get it to work each time I update one of my devices. (Especially true if you jailbreak). If you get an error, try Googling it to see what Apple (or others) recommend.
You shouldn't have to, but it's always a good idea. Sometimes the update fails, requiring you to do a "clean install", which erases ALL your data, so it makes sense to cover you ass. If you're jailbroken, you shouldn't install it at all, though there's a different process to back up Cydia data.
Just installed iOS 6 on my iPad 3 and tbh not noticed a massive difference, speed seems the same so far, maps is really cool as well as the built in navigation feature :)
