Facebook has unveiled a new Friends tab aimed at refocusing the platform on personal connections, a move that brings it closer to its original roots. The update is rolling out now to users in the United States and Canada, offering a dedicated space for friend-centric content within the app.
The company is framing this as the start of a broader effort to revive "OG" Facebook experiences. Since its inception, Facebook has been about connecting people, but over time, features like Groups, Marketplace, and video have shifted the focus. The revamped Friends tab is the first step in a series of updates planned throughout the year to bring back that core social feel. It's a shift that could resonate with longtime users who've watched the platform evolve into a sprawling digital hub.
This new tab replaces the old Friends section, which was mostly a spot for friend requests and suggested contacts. Now, it's a feed exclusively showcasing content from your friends—think stories, reels, posts, birthdays, and even those pending requests. No algorithmic recommendations or outside content will clutter this space; it's all about what your actual connections are sharing.
You'll find the Friends tab in the navigation bar on your home Feed to start, and it's always accessible via the Bookmarks section. For those who want it front and center, pinning it is straightforward. Just tap your profile picture from the home Feed, head to "Settings & Privacy," then "Settings," and select "Tab bar." From there, customize the bar, find "Friends," and pin it to keep it locked in place.
