Apple's upcoming "iPhone Fold" will allegedly feature a folding inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, according to leaker Digital Chat Station.
In a post on Weibo, the leaker claimed to offer fresh details about the device's design:
As mentioned before, Apple's large foldable also has a custom ratio, around 4:3, aimed at maintaining consistency between the inner and outer screens, aligning the software ecosystem with the iPad. Huawei's Pura X shares a similar approach, paving the way for a 16:10 HarmonyOS ecosystem across foldable screens, tablets, and PCs. Plenty of big moves in May [rubbing hands].
The 4:3 inner display ratio, revealed here for the first time, suggests Apple is prioritizing a cohesive experience across its foldable phone and tablet-like form factor.
This builds on an earlier post from the same leaker in February, which outlined initial screen size details. That post stated: "Exclusive information: Apple's big foldable. The 5.49-inch external screen somewhat resembles the Find N, but it's shorter and bulkier. The 7.74-inch internal screen, when unfolded, looks like an iPad. The ratio between the internal and external screens is truly unprecedented; an Apple-branded foldable phone + foldable tablet. Based on the current sample progress, it is expected to be launched either next year or the year after [back to school season]." The mention of an iPad-like unfolded display aligns with the newly disclosed 4:3 aspect ratio, a proportion familiar to iPad users.
Additional info comes from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who earlier this month shared predictions about the foldable iPhone's hardware. Kuo described a book-style design with a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display, along with a dual-lens rear camera and a titanium alloy casing. He also noted that mass production is slated for late 2026, with final specs expected to be locked in by mid-2025. While Kuo didn't specify the inner display's aspect ratio, his sizing estimates are consistent with Digital Chat Station's leaks.
The focus on a 4:3 inner display when unfolded points to Apple's intent to bridge the iPhone and iPad ecosystems. By adopting this ratio, the company could ensure apps and interfaces scale seamlessly between the smartphone's folded and unfolded states, a detail that sets it apart in the foldable market.
