Those looking to jailbreak their iOS devices should not update to today's release of iOS 5.0.1.
Earlier this week pod2g reported that a code signing bug found in iOS 5.0 will make it significantly easier for hackers to develop a full jailbreak for that firmware version. That bug has likely been closed in iOS 5.0.1.
Also, MuscleNerd has warned iOS users that there is no downgrade path from iOS 5.0.1 to iOS 5.0 yet. He also recommends that users wait until one is available before they update.
Jailbreakers and unlockers should avoid today's 5.0.1 until a flow for downgrading to 5.0 is developed.
Downgrade flow needs to be modified for AP "nonce" http://is.gd/b3G0io ... saved SHSH blobs are not enough to downgrade to 5.0
We'll keep you up to date on the latest developments...

C'mon now fellas, take it easy. We are all disappointed but let's not call each other "names". That is very disrespectful and tasteless. Let's just "wait" (again) and see if Dev-Team will and can deliver this time. I hope that the exploit they were talking about will lead to a better and very usefull untethered release. We'll be alright so for now this is just a waiting game.
To DEV-TEAM: Your work is highly appreciated but you have to understand the frustrations of the people. Let's put it this way, just put yourselves in their shoes and you'll know.
@Tom. I believe he was saying that the post tells you not to upgrade to 5.0.1 which fixes batery issues. So, if, to jailbreak, you must stay in 5.0 you will still have to live with battery issues/drain.
You may if you like and if you're not concerned about the battery issue, but may I suggest that you wait a litttttllllleee longer for the 5.0.1 untethered version. That way, you won't have too much of a problem. (I hope)
I love how everyone is doggin out the dev team because a JB isn't released. not one person that posted and done anything to bring one about sooner. Yet they will turn and start talking smack like a big man behind a computer because they don't have there JB. bet as soon as one is realesed all of them will be using it to.
Hmm...I wonder why is it that DEV Team aren't able to release the untethered JB yet when several website offers untether JB and software unlock to include the 4S and iPad 2 for merely $25. I understand that they're doing this for free but if the future of JB'n will be like this then it seems that it's not even worth waiting anymore when you can just coughed up 25 bucks for em. Just saying!
oh look dont update but 2 weeks aga we found 5 accesses in ios 5 and now we found 1 more and now dont update. dont quit your day job dev team. ill wait for a good jb.
Wow..another one of this. "Don't update to this, don't update to that" crap..do you have something else other than that DevTeam? Until you release something believable and working properly then you got no credibility so stop making people believe in your pipe dreams.
I REPEAT: It doesn't matter. the agreement dev-team made with Apple means there will NEVER be another meaningful software unlock released by them AND any jailbreak (outside of a buggy userland exploit of an OLD firmware) will be tethered for most of it's life. Face it folks, Apple got to the only people who could do this reliably. It is what it is, and luckily Apple fixed a lot of the reasons to jailbreak anyway. Sad, but it will NEVER be the way it was. Apple paid dev-team plenty. Believe me, I know. And before anyone wants proof, be ready to provide some proof I'm wrong. Apple reached out to them right about the same time jailbreaking was rendered officially legal. I'm right. It's over. Thanks for all they did, but it's OVER.
Are any of these recent exploits going to apply to the 4S or iPad 2? If not, what's the harm in upgrading to 5.01 (at least on the 4S), especially if your 4S eats through battery like mine...
The harm?? Didn't you read it, there's no downgrade path from iOS 5.0.1 to 5.0. If you want to jailbreak stay away so for now, carry your charger with you at all times. I'm sure there's an available AC receptacle in your path somewhere unless you don'r care about JB then update it. Got it?
