Elgato has announced that its HomeKit enabled Eve Energy Switch and Power Meter is now available for purchase in the United States. The company says its Eve Energy is the world’s first HomeKit-enabled switch that is based on energy-efficient Bluetooth Smart technology, which ensures reliable operation without adding to your already crowded WiFi network.

Eve Energy simply plugs into any wall socket and instantly gives users access to control connected devices directly from their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over Bluetooth Smart. With Eve Energy, switch your devices on or off with a simple tap or using Siri, instantly see how much energy your devices are using and create scenes to control multiple devices in just one step.

“Eve Energy was carefully designed to make your home smarter, not more complicated.” says Markus Fest, CEO of Elgato. “It is ready to use out of the box in seconds and consumes virtually no energy itself. Eve Energy is the most elegant way to control and monitor your electrical devices."

Pricing and Availability
Eve Energy is now available from Amazon.com and Elgato.com for $49.95. The Eve app is available as a free download from the App Store.

Too bulky to fit in most outlets if it's right on top of another. AHEM power strips.

Sorry but $50 doesn't grow on a tree and considering that old smartphones sell for $10-$50 on craigslist I don't think this hardware is worth spending $50 on. $10-$20 is a more reasonable price.
