Xiaomi has introduced two custom-designed system-on-chips, the XRING O1 and XRING T1, marking a major step in its push to rival established chipmakers like Apple. The announcement came during Xiaomi's "A New Beginning" event in Beijing, with the new processors positioned as direct challengers to Apple silicon in both flagship mobile devices and smartwatches.
The XRING O1 is Xiaomi's new high-end processor, built using a second-generation 3nm process and containing 19 billion transistors. It features a 10-core CPU architecture with two Cortex-X925 cores running at 3.9GHz, alongside a 16-core Immortalis-G925 GPU. Xiaomi says the chip delivers top-tier performance with strong power efficiency, a hallmark of Apple's M-series chips. The O1 also includes Xiaomi's fourth-generation Image Signal Processor (ISP) and a 6-core Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of 44 TOPS, aimed at supporting advanced AI workloads. It will debut in the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone and Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, starting in China.
In the wearable category, Xiaomi unveiled the XRING T1, its first 4G smartwatch SoC with a self-developed 4G baseband. This allows the watch to connect independently via eSIM and is designed to set a new standard in battery efficiency. Xiaomi claims the T1 delivers 35% better 4G performance than competitors while using less power, drawing parallels to Apple's work on its own C1 modem chip. The XRING T1 will power the upcoming Xiaomi Watch S4 15th Anniversary Edition.
Xiaomi says the XRING chips are part of its broader plan to lead in core technologies. To date, the company has invested 13.5 billion RMB in R&D and plans to add another 50 billion RMB over the next ten years. It's now aligning chip development with its operating system and AI initiatives for a more unified hardware and software ecosystem.
The Xiaomi 15S Pro, one of the first devices with the XRING O1, features a micro-curved display, aerospace-grade aluminum frame, and new finishes such as aramid fiber and matte Sky Blue. It includes a 6,100 mAh battery and a Leica Summilux triple-lens camera system. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra pairs the XRING O1 with a 14-inch 3.2K OLED display, a 5.1mm ultra-slim metal body, and 120W HyperCharge to power its 12,000 mAh battery. It's built for professional use and includes an eight-speaker audio setup.
