iFixit Posts Teardown of New 13-inch iPad Air [Video]

iFixit has posted a teardown of Apple's new 13-inch iPad Air with M2.

Apple's newest iPad Air is actually two Airs, both with an M2 chip, twice the base storage of the last model, and now available with an extra two inches on the Plus-sized screen. Which begs the question. What does "Air" mean if not the lightest duty, and lightest weight device in a lineup? The latest Airs clock in thicker and heavier than the equivalently sized iPad Pro.

Getting into the iPad involves heating, prying, and tough adhesive; as well as, careful handling of tiny connectors and cables. The battery replacement procedure includes pull tabs to ease the process, but is still quite tedious. The battery is slightly bigger and heavier than the 13-inch Pro, but has less capacity (36.59 Wh vs. nearly 38.99 Wh). The speakers are bigger and integrated into the case, making them irreplaceable.


The iPad Air scores a three out of 10 on the repairability scale due to difficult disassembly and lack of spare parts/documentation.
