Now that Microsoft has announced a Surface tablet to compete with the iPad many are speculating that the company will also release a smartphone to compete with the iPhone.

Jonas Daehnert at DeviantArt has posted image of what that device might look like. What do you think? Will Microsoft release a phone to rival the iPhone? Would it succeed? Is it a good idea?

Reminds me of an old calculator I used to have from the late 90's except the calculator was better and not a copied design from its competitor

i like apple products cuz of their design (software and hardware) ..and this is one sexy design! i dunno how windows phone is like (yet) i wonder what programs are used to make and render this model

Thats one sexy phone! When I take my 4s from its case, it never gets old admiring it's beauty. This rendering kinda gives me that same feeling.

Considering that the standard form of the modern mobile phone is basically a screen about 8mm thick, then no not at all. It is a distinctive design that can't really be mistaken for anything else. The iPhone 5 renders are basically a bigger thinner iPhone 4s with no glass back.

Yeah but look at those renders and look and this, the sleep/wake button, the new dock connector,the new speaker design, the way the back of it looks..?

If anyone can kill apples hot streak it's gonna be the old school Microsoft. There new angle is actually very compelling. This is coming from a person who uses apple products. The Surface is gonna be better than the iPad cause it's a computer. Sorry apple

I love that the surface has a lot more functionallity (especially the better model) but it froze During the keynote. Until they work out the bugs I'm going to hold out. Until then all I got is a firesale touchpad with ICS and WebOS.
