Blackmagic Design Unveils DaVinci Resolve 20 With Over 100 New Features and AI Tools [Video]

Blackmagic Design unveiled DaVinci Resolve 20 today, a significant update bringing more than 100 new features and advanced AI tools to its popular video editing, color grading, and audio post-production software. The public beta is available for download now from the Blackmagic Design website, and the company plans to showcase the update at its NAB 2025 booth #SL216.



The update integrates AI-driven features like AI IntelliScript, which builds timelines from text scripts, and AI Animated Subtitles, animating words as they're spoken. AI Multicam SmartSwitch automatically switches camera angles based on speaker detection, while AI Audio Assistant analyzes and balances timeline audio for a polished mix. Editors gain a dedicated keyframe editor and voiceover palettes on the cut and edit pages, alongside new optical flow vector tools and enhanced Magic Mask and Depth Map capabilities in the color module.




Fusion users will find multi-layer compositing workflows for handling complex projects. The Color Warper now includes Chroma Warp for intuitive hue adjustments, and Blackmagic Cloud introduces shared folders for seamless collaboration, syncing media locally only when used. Presentations in Blackmagic Cloud now allow guest access via URL links, letting clients review clips and add notes without an account. An updated icon view with thumbnails and metadata in the inspector panel improves media management.



For vertical video workflows, common among Apple users creating social media content, DaVinci Resolve 20 optimizes layouts on the cut, edit, and color pages when a vertical timeline is loaded. Tools and palettes adjust automatically to maximize screen space. The cut page adds a voiceover palette with cue, record, and stop controls, plus a prompter script option and automatic track creation. A full audio mixer with loudness metering enhances audio control directly on the cut page.




The edit page offers refined keyframe editing with a curve view and timeline tray, while Text+ and MultiText tools provide greater control over text layouts and animations. On the color page, chroma warp enables precise color adjustments, and remote streaming now supports H.265 4:2:2 with viewer overlays. Fusion's deep image compositing tools handle multi-layer EXR and PSD files, and new vector tools enable advanced temporal effects.



Blackmagic Design has also tailored features for Apple's ecosystem, including support for Apple Immersive Video on Vision Pro. Paired with the new Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera, filmmakers can edit, grade, and mix Spatial Audio for immersive projects.
