Having a hard time jailbreaking. For some reason Absinthe says it can't load it all the way in the app and refers me to do the VPN setting. I turn it on and nothing happens in the process. Any help?

Just want to tell you that when I tried to jailbreak my iPhone 4s on 5.0.1 with Absinthe it failed all the time like for some others. But the solution to my problem was to update to firmware 5.0.1 (iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw) first. I was on 5.0.1 but on a earlier release (iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw) which apperantly was NOT compatible with Absinthe.

Just wanted to thank you for this info. I've been trying for about 2 hours thinking I was doing something obvious wrong but I guess I've just got the wrong firmware :-( Updating now :-)

First of all, I know this entry shouldn't be here. But I don't know where else to turn. I would love to update my iPhone 3gs to 5.0.1. But I don't know how since my power button is busted and I can't put the phone in DFU. I have googled about putting the phone in DFU without the use of buttons, but I'm afraid it might brick my phone :-( Any help would be much appreciated!!! Has anyone been through this problem?

My iPhone 4S doesn't get recognised by absinthe. what's the problem?

Anyone with white screen issues after hitting Absinthe, try closing all apps including Absinthe, then turn VPN on in settings. It will likely give you an error, that's ok. Then hit Absinthe again and it should work.

Hey I have a question. My iphone 4s settings don´t appear the way showed in this tutorial.. To find vpn switch I must go to Settings / General / Network/ VPN not connected/ VPN switch on and off. (The tutorial VPN settings show VPN switch right after opening settings) When i switch VPN on it asks me for a configuration (Description, server, accounts, etc.) I havent started the jailbreak process but will I have a problem jailbreaking my iphone 4s if VPN is not configured?

I'm having the same problem! I'm scouring the internet looking for somebody with an explanation. This is definitely happening to some people out there. We're not the only ones.

After visiting that link above, it became clear to me that I would have to restore my phone to its factory state to have a chance at a successful jailbreak. Here is a guaranteed no-fail method: 1. Backup your phone to your COMPUTER (not iCloud). You can restore your content and settings after jailbreaking and your phone will be identical to how it was, plus the jailbreak, because restoring your phone from a computer backup does not overwrite the firmware. 2. Restore your iPhone (erase all content in settings in the settings/general menu. 3. Once restored it will guide you through the new phone setup. It will ask if you want to restore from an iCloud or computer backup - or if you want to setup a new phone. Pick "setup new phone." 4. Once the phone is functioning like new again and you're at the home screen, go ahead and jailbreak according to the instructions (remember: don't set a passcode!). Everything should go relatively quickly and it should not hang at "beginning jailbreak, this may take a while," because the Absinthe makes a copy of the content on your phone in the process of jail breaking and because the phone is new again, this will whiz by. 5. Finish the jailbreak according to the iClarified's instructions (hit the absinthe button, phone reboots, cydia should be on your screen now). 6. Open cydia, let it load the sources and packages. It may not load all sources right away. Don't panic. It took cydia about 45 minutes to function as I remembered it. DO NOT start installing apps until you restore your content. 7. Now, Attach your phone to iTunes. It will think the phone is new, but will ask if you want to restore from a recent backup of your old phone. Choose the one you just made. Let the phone restore - it might take 15 minutes and your phone will be inaccessible. 8. Once restored, everything should be as you left it - contacts, mail, calendars, texts. Your media and apps will be downloading in the background. Don't worry, Angry Birds will remember your high score. 9. As your content slowly trickles back into your device, find the Cydia app, which should be workiIng ok by now (if not, keep hitting "refresh" in the changes tab). It WILL eventually work so don't worry. Their servers are having a hard time keeping up with the recent influx of jailbreakers, I imagine. Start downloading jailbroken apps (I recommend starting with sbsettings and intelliscreenx) and enjoy! REMEMBER: Immediately backup your SHSH blobs using tiny umbrella! I honestly don't even know exactly what that means, but it basically allows you to restore your phone back to a certain version of firmware if you need to (Apple doesn't allow downgrades). I've done this method on 3 phones now and I think it's the cleanest and most hassle free way to do it. Total time it takes is around 45 minutes. For those of you having Safari crashes - I found that the app Safari Download Manager was causing mine. Pay attention to what you download and if things start screwing up, remove them one by one in reverse til the problem goes away.
