Apple Posts Official Fix for iTunes 8 and Vista

Posted September 11, 2008 at 11:50pm by iClarified
Apple has posted an official support document to resolve the Blue Screen of Death errors that some users experienced when using iTunes 8 and Windows Vista.

Symptoms
After installing iTunes 8 for Windows, some users may see a blue screen error message when connecting iPhone or iPod to a Windows Vista computer. In some cases, the computer may immediately restart when connecting iPhone or iPod to the computer.

Solution
1. Disconnect your iPhone or iPod from Windows Vista.

2. Uninstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support

* For Classic View
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
2. First select Apple Mobile Device Support, click Uninstall.
3. Select iTunes, click Uninstall.

* For Control Panel Home View
1. Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
2. First select Apple Mobile Device Support, click Uninstall.
3. Select iTunes and click Uninstall.

3. Restart the computer.

4. Re-download and install the updated iTunes 8 installer from www.apple.com/itunes/download.

Important: Do not use the iTunes8Setup or iTunes864Setup file you previously downloaded.

NOTE*: Thanks to Lyrrad for the heads up on this issue. Sometimes we miss Windows issues since we all use Macs :)

The only flaw I encountered after downloading iTunes 8 was the non-function of Quicktime. Downloaded just Quicktime, installed, and iTunes 8 is now behaving itself, well at least for now - LOL.

You've restored my faith with your quick posting of this solution after my rant. I have tried it and it works! Now if only they would fix the other issue like - the shifting of the calendar item time zones when you travel - the ability to use a bluetooth headset to play music like any other mobile device - the ability to use have more than 50 contacts before the device chokes - the ability to sync notes and tasks from outlook - and oh, copy and paste, just to name a few . . . wouldn't it be nice? Again, thanks for the quick response. I almost considered switching to a Zune. . . then I and the other two people who own one (Bill and Jerry) could share music.
