I've done this several times. Everything looks correct. No errors. But the About preference shows I am still on 4.2.1. (So does iTunes.) WTF?

For anyone getting the "This device isn't eligible for the requested build" error - I fixed this issue by going into DFU mode before doing the restore. If you scroll down and follow the instructions (holding power for 5 seconds, then both power and home and finally releasing power), iTunes will pop up saying it recognizes an iPad in recovery mode and do you want to recover. Hold the option button and press restore, then select the IPSW and continue the instructions from there. Worked perfectly for me.

Many thanks, Lee, that appears to have worked for me. I'm in the midst of the loooong restore from yesterday's backup, but the restore from the downloaded .ipsw went without an error, so I have every hope that it will be fine when this is complete.

I was unable to restore the downloaded .ipsw. I got an error from iTunes that my iPad "This device isn't eligible for the requested build." Apple support says that usually happens if you don't have the latest version of iTunes, but I'm running 10.2.1. It also says it can happen if you're trying to restore to an older .ipsw but obviously the one I downloaded from you here is newer than my 4.2.1 version. Any advice?

After doing a restore and jailbreak is it possible to restore my iPad backup and keep the device jailbroken? Or do I have to setup everything from scratch?
