Eine Anleitung wie man den iPod Touch (1G oder 2G) mit der OS 3.0 Firmware unter Mac durch Verwendung von Redsn0w jailbreakt. Die Anleitung für Windows findet ihr hier

Schritt eins
Erstelle einen Ordner auf deinem Desktop mit dem Namen Pwnage

Lade dir Redsn0w hier herunter und speichere sie in den Pwnage-Ordner auf dem Desktop. Lade dir nun die iPod touch Firmware 3.0 über iTunes herunter* und platziere sie im Pwnage-Ordner.

NOTIZ*: Die iPod touch 3.0 Firmware muss über iTunes gekauft werden. iTunes wird die Firmware-Dateien hier speichern:
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
~/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

Entpacke die Redsn0w-Applikation aus dem Archiv in den Pwnage-Ordner.

Schritt zwei
Verbinde deinen iPod touch mit dem Computer und starte iTunes.

Wähle deinen iPod touch in der Liste der Geräte links aus. Halte nun die Alt-Taste gedrückt und klicke auf den Wiederherstellen-Button (im Bild unten "Restore"). Man sollte den iPod touch wiederherstellen, da so kein verlorener Speicherplatz auf dem iPod übrig bleibt.

Navigiere zu dem Pwnage-Ordner auf deinem Desktop und wähle die Firmware (*.ipsw) aus. Klicke auf den Öffnen-Button um fortzufahren.

Schritt drei
Wenn iTunes mit der Wiederherstellung fertig ist, starte die redsnw0w.app aus dem Pwnage-Ordner auf dem Desktop.

Schritt vier
Wenn sich Redsn0w geöffnet hat, klicke auf Browse.

Schritt fünf
Wähle die Firmware (*.ipsw) aus dem Pwnage-Ordner und klicke auf Öffnen.

Schritt sechs
Wenn die Überprüfung der Firmware fertig ist, klicke auf den Next-Button.

Schritt sieben
Stelle sicher, dass Cydia ausgewählt ist und klicke auf den Next-Button.

Schritt acht
Schließe nun deinen iPod an den Computer an und stelle sicher dass er AUSGESCHALTEN ist. Klicke dann auf Next.

Schritt neun
Redsn0w wird dich jetzt durch die Schritte führen, um in den DFU-Modus zu gelangen. Mehr Hilfe zum DFU-Modus hier.

Zuerst musst du für 2 Sekunden lang den Anschaltknopf des iPods gedrückt halten.

Danach, ohne den Anschaltknopf loszulassen, musst du den Home- und den Anschaltknopf für 10 Sekunden gedrückt halten.

Nun musst du den Anschaltknopf loslassen aber den Home-Knopf gedrückt halten, bis Redsn0w den iPod erkennt.

Schritt zehn
Dein iPod touch wird jetzt neu hochfahren.

Schritt elf
Redsn0w beginnt nun mit dem Upload der RAM-Disk.

Schritt zwölf
Sobald dies erledigt ist, wird Redsn0w ihnen mitteilen, dass es fertig ist. Klicke auf den Finish-Button.

When dein iPod touch neu gestartet ist, (dauert ca. 5 Minuten), ist er jailbroken und hat Cydia als Icon auf dem Springboard.

I installed Winterboard, clicked reboot and the ipod 1gen is stuck at the pineapple logo. After about 20 secs it just goes black

Why is it that when i download the redsnow file on my mac, it downloads as a zip file and i never had that trouble because i have a program that opens zip files stuffit

Ok.. this is somewhat of an update to this tutorial. I used RedSn0w 0.8 to jailbreak my 2G iPod Touch on a MAC. Firstly, you will need to upgrade your device's OS to version 3. You can download this for your device. Google and Softpedia is your friend. Use that firmware that I had just mentioned above for the steps mentioned in the tutorial. When entering in DFU mode and RedSn0W says waiting for reboot, what I did was to unplug my USB cable from the computer momentarily and inserted it back. That caused the device to continue with the jailbreak process. Another note worthy thing is that you need to used APPLESYNC 3.0 and not MIPATCH for a device that has been upgraded to 3.0. It will cause the device to hang on boot.

If it wasn't for the unplug/replug, I'd be waiting forever.... I tried this about a dozen times, with a bunch of different tutorials (all telling me the SAME THING) until I found this comment!! It's now actually DOING something!

I thought the jailbreak failed as the iPod touch 2.0 didn't reboot automatically and Cydia didn't appear on the home page, but it was there all along on the page to the right on the home page. Check there!

attempting 2G 3.0 JB on 10.6 ----------- I get no response after DFU. (No progress indicator change) Just hangs? Red recognizes the device (I assume, as it makes it passed dfu check) but hangs up soon after. I've tried using VM (parallels/XP) but nothing. any workarounds or other solutions besides red? (I'm not a touch guy, but I do have experience with the phone) cheers-

you need to look further in this website (iphone hack section) and install ultrasn0w via cydia in order for you to access different carriers.

Same thing with me. What is confusing is that the tutorial doesnt mention anything of what the iPod itself states ( for instance: installing binaries). Is there anyway of getting my pod working again? iTunes does not recognize it. Pressing start doesn't help, neither does Start and Home button. All black and dead.... help!

In step two: hold down shift and click the Restore button should be replaced with: hold down option and click the Restore button
