Canva Announces Acquisition of Generative AI Platform Leonardo

Canva has announced the acquisition of generative AI platform Leonardo, adding to its suite of AI-powered products for graphic design.

With Leonardo.Ai's incredible foundational model, and team of 120 high-caliber researchers, engineers, and designers, this acquisition bolsters our ability to supercharge our growing suite of AI products while investing in continued research and innovation to unlock the future of visual AI.




Canva recently acquired the Affinity suite of professional design software. Similar to how it handled that acquisition, Canva says Leonardo.Ai will continue to develop its web platform for its millions of users – including its business customers – now accelerated with Canva's financial resources, expertise, and licensed content from the Canva Creators program.

As well as using this acquisition to supercharge Leonardo's platform and user growth, Canva plans to rapidly integrate Leonardo's technology and their Phoenix foundational model into the existing suite of Magic Studio products. Leonardo's models can generate images in styles ranging from hyper-realistic photos to character portraits, anime, painterly styles, and more. Additionally, its AI video generation tool can bring a concept to dynamic life, from animated illustrations to storytelling sequences. Leonardo is said to excel in model fine-tuning, accurate prompt interpretation, training speed, inference pace, and multi-image prompting capabilities.
