Photos of an Apple Watch Series 10 prototype with a mystery sensor have surfaced on X today. The images were posted by leaker @StellaFudge.
Prototype Apple Watch Series 10 with… A very unique health sensor arrangement.
The prototype, identified as an Apple Watch Series 10 (GPS) with a 46mm aluminum case, showcases a redesigned health sensor array on its underside. Unlike the standard Series 10, this version features smaller sensors arranged in a circular pattern, with an additional light ring around the perimeter. The model number, A294-59296LW/A, and serial number are visible in the device's settings, likely identifying it as a test unit. The watch is running an unreleased build of watchOS 11, specifically version 11.1 (22R5575X), which falls between the 11.1 beta 5 and release candidate stages.
According to @StellaFudge, the health sensors cannot be tested at this time. The watch's software is restricted to pulling stock apps from Apple's internal network servers, preventing standard app installations. While the purpose of the extra sensor remains unknown, the leaker notes that it could be part of a test platform for blood sugar monitoring, though no further details are available. The prototype also bears markings such as ABX-G08ap-h and is labeled as being designed by Apple in California and assembled in China.
Notably, a recent report from Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple remains actively working on a blood glucose sensor for Apple Watch and has reached key milestones; however, he estimates the company is still many years away from delivering the feature.
