Apple May Limit USB-C Port on iPhone to MFI Certified Accessories [Rumor]

Apple is allegedly planning to limit the USB-C port on the upcoming iPhone to MFI-certified accessories, according to a new rumor that has surfaced on Weibo.
The unverified prediction comes from a user who claims to have worked for twenty five years in the integrated circuit design industry.
Apple does it by itself and makes a type C, lightning interface IC, which will be used in this year's new iPhone and MFI-certified peripheral devices.
Apple's MFi (Made for iPhone) program, is a licensing program for developers of hardware and software peripherals. To get access to certain protocols, manufacturers need to join the program and pass certification tests.
Join the MFi Program and get the technical specifications, hardware components, certification tools, and badge artwork needed to develop and manufacture electronic accessories that connect to Apple products using licensed technologies. Companies and organizations are eligible to apply.
Although, Apple does not limit the USB-C port on iPad, it's possible that the company could do so on iPhone to keep the MFI program alive. However, it's also possible that the Lightning IC is just there to keep compatibility with existing accessories.
We're not expecting Apple to unveil its next generation iPhones until this fall, so we're likely to see many more leaks ahead of launch. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more updates.
