Google, Microsoft, and Adobe Cancel Upcoming Events Due to Coronavirus

Google, Microsoft, and Adobe have announced that they're cancelling the in-person portion of their upcoming developer and director conferences. Facebook already announced the cancellation of F8 last month.

Google will transform its Google Cloud Next '20 into a digital event:

The health and wellbeing of Google Cloud customers, partners, employees and the overall community is our top priority. Due to the growing concern around the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in alignment with the best practices laid out by the CDC, WHO and other relevant entities, Google Cloud has decided to reimagine Google Cloud Next ’20, which will still take place from April 6-8. We are transforming the event into Google Cloud Next ’20: Digital Connect, a free, global, digital-first, multi-day event connecting our attendees to Next ’20 content and each other through streamed keynotes, breakout sessions, interactive learning and digital “ask an expert” sessions with Google teams.

Adobe is cancelling its live event in Las Vegas and making Adobe Summit 2020 an online event this year:

Over the past few weeks, we have been closely monitoring and evaluating the situation around COVID-19 to ensure we are taking the necessary measures to protect the health and wellbeing of Adobe Summit attendees. As a result, we have made the difficult but important decision to make Adobe Summit 2020 an online event this year and cancel the live event in Las Vegas. While we are disappointed that we will not be together in-person with our community this year, we are excited to host Adobe Summit as a digital experience.

Microsoft has also announced its Global Summit 2020 will be a virtual event:

We have been reviewing the guidance provided by government agencies and international organizations on a continuous basis. The health and safety of our Microsoft MVPs and Regional Directors (RDs), as well as our partners, suppliers and employees is our top priority.  In light of recent developments globally and the growing concerns around the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Microsoft has made the decision that this year’s MVP/ Regional Director Summit will be an online-only / virtual event. It will be scheduled for the same week (Mar 16-19). Our entire team is working hard to plan and prepare an alternate experience that still provides the exclusive in-depth technical sessions in an online-only format and be inclusive to our globally distributed community.

Given these announcements, it seems more likely that Apple will follow suit and cancel its Worldwide Developers Conference in June; however, there is still a bit of time for the company to make the decision.

Notably, both Facebook and Twitter have now pulled out of SXSW which will be held March 13-22 in Austin, Texas.
