Apple's next generation 5G iPhone will feature sensor-shift image stabilization for its camera system, according to a new DigiTimes report.
Some models of Apple's 5G iPhone lineup to be released in 2020 reportedly will come with sensor-shift stabilization technology, according to industry observers.
Currently, Apple uses optical image stabilization which means that an element inside the lens is shifted to compensate for camera shake. With sensor-shift image stabilization the image sensor is shifted inside the camera to compensate for camera shake.
The advantage of sensor-shift image stabilization is that any lens attached to the camera will be able to utilize the built-in stabilization. The disadvantage is that typically you wouldn't be able to preview the stabilized image on screen making it harder to compose a shot. However, Apple may be able to take care of this with software.
DigiTimes says that the sensor-shifting motors will be supplied by ALPS and the CMOS image sensors will be supplied by Sony.
