Apple has announced a multi-year partnership with Oprah Winfrey to developer original programming content.
Here's the announcement in full:
Apple today announced a unique, multi-year content partnership with Oprah Winfrey, the esteemed producer, actress, talk show host, philanthropist and CEO of OWN. Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world. Winfrey’s projects will be released as part of a lineup of original content from Apple.
The deal with Oprah follows a slew of other programming that has been picked up by Apple. Following its lackluster Planet of the Apps show, Apple hired veteran television executives Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht away from Sony Pictures Television. The two executives began building Apple Worldwide Video from the ground up, expanding it staff to about 40 people and opening divisions for adult dramas, children's shows and Latin American and European programming.
Working with a budget of around $1 billion, Apple has made deals with Reese Witherspoon (three shows), Steven Spielberg, Damien Chazelle, M. Night Shyamalan, Jennifer Aniston, Octavia Spencer, Kristen Wiig, and others.
It's believed that Apple will launch its original programming in early 2019. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
