Inventec Lands Orders for Apple Smart Speaker?

Inventec has landed orders for a new Siri powered Apple smart speaker, according to the Economic Daily News via DigiTimes. Inventec is the same company that assembles Apple's AirPods.

Taiwan-based OEM Inventec reportedly has landed orders from Apple to produce a connected speaker device, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report. The connected speaker will be Apple's first AI-based smart home device powered by Siri and is expected to take on Amazon's smart home assistant Echo, said the report, citing Kuo Ming-chi, an analyst at Taiwan-based KGI Securities.

Reports from Sonny Dickson and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have suggested that we could see a new Amazon Echo competitor from Apple as soon as WWDC in June.

Dickson claimed that Apple was finalizing the design of the device and that it featured a Mac Pro style. Dickson described a device that has a concave top with controls and is fat with the speaker mesh portion covering it all.

Kuo said it will have excellent acoustics performance (one woofer + seven tweeters) and computing power (similar to iPhone 6/6S AP).
