Apple Expands Find My Network to South Korea

Apple has announced the expansion of its 'Find My' network to South Korea. The update allows South Korean customers to locate their Apple devices and personal items on a map, share their location with family and friends, and keep their data secure through the 'Find My' app.

David Dorn, Apple's Senior Director of Services Products, said, "Find My is an important tool that helps users keep track of what matters most to them—whether it's friends, family, or personal items—and we're thrilled to bring this feature to users in South Korea," adding, "Whether users are traveling with a device or meeting up with a friend, Find My helps them stay connected and share information while maintaining their privacy."

Find Friends and Family
Find My offers various ways to stay connected with friends and family. Users can share their location with friends and family via the Find My app or the Messages app. They can choose to share in real time for an hour, a day, or indefinitely, making it easier to locate and contact each other. The Precision Finding feature provides direction and distance to a destination, helping users find friends and family in crowded places.

Additionally, the built-in Safety Check feature in the Messages app notifies friends or family when the user arrives safely at their destination. Once Safety Check is activated, the designated contact receives an automatic alert upon arrival, and if the user is not progressing toward their destination, helpful information such as the device's location, battery level, and signal strength is securely shared with the chosen contact.

Users can view and update their location sharing settings at any time in the Find My app, including revoking permissions for specific individuals or turning off location sharing altogether.

Locate and Track Devices
Users can easily find all their Apple devices—including those in their Family Sharing group—using the 'Devices' tab in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, or the 'Find Devices' app on Apple Watch.

The app also allows users to view each device's battery level and receive separation alerts when a device is left behind. If a device is misplaced or lost, users can view directions to its last known location and play a sound to help find it. Setting the device to 'Lost Mode' locks it immediately, disables all Apple Pay data, and displays a message with contact information for anyone who finds the device. Users can also remotely erase data to protect against misuse.

Track Personal Items
With the compact and elegantly designed AirTag and Find My network accessories, users can track and locate their most important belongings. Attaching AirTags or network accessories to items like handbags, keys, or backpacks allows users to locate them through the Find My network.
Each item can be shared with up to five people using the 'Share This Item' feature, allowing the group to see its location, play a sound, or use Precision Finding (AirTag only).

Users can also use the 'Item Location Sharing' feature to share the location of a lost AirTag or network accessory with trusted third parties such as airlines. Location sharing is automatically disabled once the item is found, and owners can stop sharing at any time before the 7-day automatic expiration.

Currently, 22 global airlines—including Air Canada, Air New Zealand, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, and United Airlines—use this feature to help locate customer belongings.

Privacy in the User's Control
Like all Apple products, the Find My feature is designed to give users full control over their data. The Find My network uses Bluetooth to detect lost devices or nearby items via a crowdsourced network of over a billion Apple devices and relays approximate location back to the owner.
Because this system uses end-to-end encryption, Apple cannot see the location of offline devices or the devices that requested the information.

Users have complete clarity and control over how their location data is shared for themselves, their devices, and their items. When a user shares their location, the recipient receives a notification including an invitation to share their own location.
AirTag and Find My network accessories are designed to help users find their personal belongings—not to track others or their property.

Availability in Korea
Find My features are available in Korea on devices running iOS 18.4 or later for iPhone, iPadOS 18.4 or later for iPad, macOS Sequoia 15.4 or later for Mac, and watchOS 11.4 or later for Apple Watch. AirPods, Beats headphones, AirTag, Apple Pencil Pro, MagSafe Wallet, and Find My network accessories are also supported.
