The current gap between Apple product announcements is the longest one in over three years, according to a chart compiled by Business Insider.
If Apple doesn't unveil anything until WWDC 2013 it will be 230 days between product announcements. That's over three months longer than the 132 day gap between the MacBook Air and the iPad 2 in 2010 to 2011.
From a purely financial standpoint, it's not good. Apple will have nothing new to goose its sales and profits. It gives rivals eight months to introduce new products that can sap at Apple's core business. That's why it forecasted a midpoint revenue guidance of $34.5 billion for the June 2013 quarter, which is a 1% drop on a year-over-year basis. It also guided to EPS of $7 for the quarter, a 25% decline.
There have been rumors that Apple could hold an iPad event before WWDC; however, that appears to be increasingly unlikely.
