Walmart Will Offer iPhone 5 Pre-orders for the First Time at a Small Discount

Walmart is set to offer iPhone 5 pre-orders at a discounted price for the very first time tomorrow, reports Bloomberg.

The iPhone 5, announced yesterday, can be ordered tomorrow at 8 a.m. at U.S. stores, Sarah Spencer, a spokeswoman for the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer, said in an interview. The newest version of the best-selling smartphone will sell for $189.97 with a two-year contract, Spencer said. That's cheaper than the $199 price announced by Apple, which will also begin taking orders tomorrow.

Walmart will also offer the iPhone 4S for $89.97 with a two year contract and the iPHone 4 for $0.97 with a two year contract.

Pre-orders will be available to pick-up on September 21st. The same day the iPhone 5 launches at the Apple Store.

Not all Walmarts where offering the iPhone on 9/14. I live in NY and I had to go threw 3 walmarts before i found one an hour away from where I live to pre order. When I arrived there where only 8 pre orders left so I pre ordered 3 :-) . I thought about going downtown and just wait inline at the 5th Ave Apple store but I wasn't thinking clearly. People are already camped out in front of the apple store as I type this message and have been since this weekend.......SMH I would have had no luck at that so i think walmart is your best bet if you want the phone the day it releases because online pre orders from apple and wireless carriers will not receive there phones until Oct :-\ GOOD HUNTING!

Here is my complaint I submitted to Walmart this morning, I can't believe no one knew about their preorders: I went to Walmart today to pre-order an iPhone like your main page on walmart.com told me I could. I live right next to your Silber location in Houston Texas and was so excited that I could just run over to where I always shop and not have to wake up in the middle of the night to try to get it from someone else. I got there at 7:20am because I assumed there would be a line for the preorder that was supposed to start at 8am. But what I found was appalling, no one knew anything about a preorder. The nice lady in electronics asked around until I was finally put in contact with the store manager Alfredo, who told me that they normally don't make a big deal about launches unless a lot of people call about them and no one has really called about the iPhone. I told him it wasn't a launch but just a preorder that was supposed to start at 8am. He then said that his wireless manager comes in at 8am so if I could wait until about 8:10 am so they could get their cash till ready they should be able to help. How a store manager doesn't know about a nationwide launch posted on the website shocked me. I then take his advice and go wait by the wireless department. While waiting I spoke with another person preparing tills for the morning, who was very nice and helpful, and she informed me that the wireless manager comes in at 5am every morning. I really didn't appreciate being lied to by the store manager saying that the department manager wasn't there yet and being forced to wait for someone that was already there. When he could have just paged the manager to ask her what their process was for the preorder, but instead he blew me off and told me to sit and wait, thanks Alfredo my time is obviously less important than yours. I continue to wait and at a little after 8:10 am Sally your wireless department manager comes to talk to be and tells me there is no preorder and that I needed to go to Apple or AT&T if I wanted to get one. I then showed her the website and how it said to come into the store at 8am 9/14. She continued to say she had not received any information about it but that she would ask her vendors when they came in. She said the best she could do was take me number and give me a call when she hears something. So I'm forced to leave with nothing but disappointment. I hope there is a way your company can resolve this for your customers. I plan on sharing this information with every website/blog/media outlet I can until your company can fix this.

If you check their facebook its been updated saying all stores should receive it by 9/15 (tomorrow) by 10 AM. I just called my local walmarts and I also went at 8am and they had no freakin clue about it as well. However, they updated me saying they just got a message from the main center and there was a DELAY of the preorder cards that are handed out for a $25 deposit.

Considering the iPhone 4 is free elsewhere I'd says that's stupid.

Even though it's only $.97. I was thinking the same thing. Should be free.
