Video Compares Black and White 'iPhone 5' Glass Panels to iPhone 4S [Watch]

SmartPhoneMedic has posted a video comparing leaked black and white 'iPhone 5' glass panels to the iPhone 4S.

---
As you can see, the iPhone 5 front glass panel is slightly taller than the current iPhone 4/4S. However, it still remains the same width. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S III, the iPhone 5 will have a smaller display area in both width and height. We're not sure why Apple decided to only make it taller and not wider, but I'm sure Mr. Cook will explain it at the upcoming Apple Event. The other major component is the 8-pin dock connector. It does look like Apple has moved away from their traditional 30-pin dock connector to a new, and much smaller, 8-pin dock connector. It is still unknown if they will provide some type of adapter for those out there with 30-pin dock connector accessories. It will be very interesting to see how Apple handles this issue.

It appears that Apple has also removed the liquid contact indicator from the dock connector. The indicator still remains in the headphone jack, so don't think you will get away with dropping your shiny new iPhone 5 in the toilet and trying to return it to the Apple Store because it "mysteriously" won't turn on. This change may have been done because there is no need for two indicators at the bottom of the iPhone 5. In the previous iPhone models, the headphone jack was at the top of the device and the dock connector was at the bottom, so it made since to have one in both. We haven't seen any signs of a liquid contact indicator for the top portion of the iPhone 5 yet. Well that is it for now, but stay tuned because we will continue to update you on parts as they become available.

As always, all of these 'so-called' leaked parts represent nothing more than pure conjecture and rumor. Until the new iPhone is released, no one but the developers at Apple have any idea what the new iPhone will look like. Lastly, the new iPhone most certainly will not be called iPhone 5.

Apple already said numerous times how they don't want their entire device taking up your hand and being difficult to hold. ex. SGS3

The reason for the increased heigth with the same width is clear, they're trying to increase the display space, rather than simply increasing the overall screen size (i.e. you now have an extra row of icons). As for the 'liquid indicators', I say it's about time. I live in perpetual fear that a stray drop of rain will get into my earphone port while I'm running through the rain and both destroy my expensive phone and invalidate my warranty. Removing that indicator from the top of the phone only makes sense.

Steve Jobs wanted you to be able to wrap your hand around the phone as you have previously stated in other articles ... you can still text and use the phone with one hand which is why its the same width ... also presumably wiith an adapter some current docks will still fit .... will come under crticism for screen especially as other phones get bigger ..

Are there any Galaxy S3 owners out there who could comment on how easy or difficult it is to text or access apps one-handed vs. iPhone? To date, the only smartphones I've owned are iPhones. But Samsung is leaping over Apple by releasing products more frequently. If most of what you are going to get with the next iPhone model is 4G/LTE and a SLIGHTLY larger screen (elongated) then Apple isn't even keeping up with Samsung or HTC models from early in the year. I doubt iOS6 is going to leapfrog over the advances that Android OS has made either. Android is catching up to looking more iOS-snappy in its use.

I don't expect THIS model to 'leapfrog' recent technology, but it IS a big development. It substantially increases the throughput on data, and the 'longer screen' allows more data to be displayed (rather than just showing the same information on a bigger surface). I see both as substantial improvements. However, the biggest difference between Apple and Android devices is Apple's reputation for quality. While the iPhone may be lagging a bit, it's still a more reliable, more dependable product. It's amazing how quickly people forget the last 'major advance' of a retina display. Give me a break, you can only come up with so many revolutionary design changes in any given year!
