Writing for the New York Times, David Pogue reports that Apple is working on a new Mac Pro and iMac which will probably be released in 2013.
Many Apple observers also wonder if Apple thinks that desktop computers are dead, since not a word was said about the iMac and Mac Pro. An executive did assure me, however, that new models and new designs are under way, probably for release in 2013.
Apple did release a minor update to the Mac Pro today; however, it didn't even bring Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 connectivity.
Conjecture: rack-mount design with multi ARM processor. If calculations are correct, 8 to 12 of Cortex A15 with make into the pro. A complete severance to Intel? Why not? They are a more capitalized company; and the iPad shows they can pull it off. Besides, it will be less work on the OS front for it will be compiled for 1 platform. Another advantage is independent time-to-market product introduction. No more copy cats.
