Over 350,000 textbooks have already reportedly been downloaded from the Apple iBookstore, reports Global Equities Research.
The company uses a proprietary tracking system to monitor downloads and it estimates that during the first three days of available 350,000 textbooks were downloaded. They also estimate that there were 90,000 downloads of Apple's new iBooks Author application for Mac.
Global Equities Research also estimates the supply chain markup on textbooks to be between 33% and 35%, slightly more than the 30% that Apple takes. Using iBooks Author is said to lower the cost of textbook production by 80% making distribution through the iBookstore a profitable option for publishers.
