Wi-Fi Mapping Software For Mac
Posted November 8, 2011 at 2:29pm by iClarified
NetSpot released 1.1 for download. The interface remained almost the same, still easy to use for any Mac owner; developers added much nicer graphics and icons, updated the main app logo. The new NetSpot is designed to increase performance, enhance overall app's stability, and add several long awaited features.
NetSpot 1.1 lets anyone run a quick and extremely effective Wi-Fi site survey and quickly map wireless coverage of a living area, office space, new building, etc. It's a must-have tool for Wi-Fi planning, analysis and troubleshooting. And it will run on any MacBook with Mac OS 10.6 or 10.7 on board.
NetSpot Wi-Fi mapper makes it super-easy to diagnose areas of poor reception in your Wi-Fi network, as well as locate troublesome areas of noise-generating machinery that could be causing wireless traffic issues (like microwaves, cordless phones, etc). NetSpot 1.1 adds a highly anticipated map drawing mode to help out everyone who doesn't have a digitized map of the area at hand. With the new toolset one can quickly sketch a site map for Wi-Fi surveying right in NetSpot. Or you can load a scanned copy or use a sample or blank map instead. The number of supported image formats was increased in version 1.1.
With NetSpot 1.1 it became much easier to duplicate survey zones, rename and manage them. Users can filter found networks to actualize Wi-Fi signal visualizations to their project requirements. There's a new report that maps Signal to Interference Ratio and a number of UI improvements to highlight security status of the scanned wireless networks. NetSpot 1.1 has a better algorithm to detect Access Points' actual locations on the map and lets users control its proximity setting.
NetSpot team is already busy with the next release planning to add some real-time Wi-Fi scanning features, more troubleshooting hints, multi-floor areas support and other exciting functions. It's unconfirmed, but there might be an iPad version of NetSpot available soon.
With a little time and effort investment, thanks to NetSpot you end up with an extremely useful visualization of your network, which not only evaluates what you have and points out problem areas, it also shows you where you might like to add a speed booster, or where to locate another worker in your office. If you were looking at paying someone for a site survey, with NetSpot you can actually do this yourself! And you still get all this functionality for free.
Pricing and Availability:
NetSpot 1.1 is free and available for download worldwide from the NetSPot App website.
