While comment on a post about 'Reading on the iPad' by Shawn Blanc, Daring Fireball's John Gruber states the iPad 3 will have a Retina Display.
These magazines and newspapers that render each "page" as a static 1024 × 768 image are going to look like utter ass on the iPad 3's 2048 × 1536 retina display. Plus, it's the fact that these pages are rendered as static images that makes the issues such gargantuan downloads.
Gruber tends to be very well informed and has previously suggested the iPad 3 could arrive this year.
While commenting about the HP TouchPad earlier this year, Gruber wrote, "Summer feels like a long time away. If my theory is right, they're not only going to be months behind the iPad 2, but if they slip until late summer, they might bump up against the release of the iPad 3. And not only did they announce this with a distant ship date, they did it with no word on pricing."
Yes. A prototype that was seen had the retina display, a 300GB hard drive and was significantly faster. Read more about it at http://italkiphone.com/2011/07/update-on-iphone-5-rumor-and-an-ipad-3/
Why? He's reporting on news. Apparently a prototype was spotted on a plane. Apparently Apple is going after the "higher end" netbook market. They said $1100 price point.
That's what I'm saying. That story sounds like SO much crap. What "high end" netbook cost $1,100? You can get a Macbook Pro for that, and that's how much apple is going to sell the next gen iPad for? Plus the only source is "My friend talked to an Apple developer on a plane." which also makes it much less credible. I think the next iPad will have a retina display, but the whole 300GB hard drive and $1,100 price point is bullshit.
