So did they fix the passcode lock bug, where the only option available is 'immediately'? Nope, I have no exchange settings blah blah, its a bug, and needs fixing. I'm using an iphone 4 on 4.0.1 and it did work, then i did a reset all, and the options disappeared. You might suggest I restore, but the only option is UPGRADE and restore, and as I didn't save my SHSH files in time it's not an option. I was hoping to hear they'd also fixed the multitasking shit, where it puts every app you open in the MT dock, rather than a selection page in options where you can select which app remains open. Where would you ever need settings, or clock to remain open?? I want to JB my phone but, just to add to my rant, my iphone WILL NOT jailbreak on jailbreakme.com. All i get is the purple space image. I've tried more than 100 times, and again the suggestion is 'do a restore', but as this would upgrade to 4.1 it's not really an option. anybody else cannot jailbreak?

Jailbreakme.com doesn't work for me either. I'm an iPhone 3GS 4.0.1. It loads the page, I press (or slide) to Jailbreak, it downloads something, and then it crashes... (MobileSafari just dies). Sux bigtime! It worked on my iPad though.

I would try deleting all history (by going to both the history bookmarks section in safari and also in settings), closing out of safari completely (closing the stock backgrounder by apple), then restart the iPhone. In setting also make sure that JavaScript is enabled. I had the same problem and then was able to fix it by doing the above method. If this still doesn't work post again and let me know.

Anyone get an error code 1004 while upgrading to IOS 4.1? I just bought an iPhone 4 32GB Black, it comes with a IOS version 4.0.2, I don't know why when i try to upgrade to 4.1 it always give me an error code 1004 and return to recovery mode, I'v tried DFU and upgrade, same error. Anyone can help on it? I'm using Mac os x 1.6.4 snow leopard, iTunes 10.0(67), i never jailbreak or hack my iPhone4, every operation on it is normal. Thanks guys

Did you try a "total wipe" of your iPhone, before you try to upgrade?

If you saved your SHSH Blobs to Saurik's server and edited you etc/hosts file, you firmware is not getting confirmed by Apple. Revert to an old hosts file or remove the reference that points to Saurik's server... Or update on a different computer and restore.

what's your mean "total wipe"? I tried it in DFU mode, normally this is the finally mode to do on iDevices, like you even can use this mode to downgrade IOS. As i said, i tried use the normal way, which is just click the "update" button, recovery mode, and DFU mode. all the same error code 1004

Aha, i know what's the problem. Because i didn't remove the line "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com" from /etc/hosts on my mac, that's the reason. After i removed it and repeat the update process on DFU mode, it goes well. :-)

There is a lot of buzz that the Dev Team is waiting for 4.2 before the use their stash of exploits for a jailbreak. Not sure why, but I assumed that 4.2 was going to be exclusively for the iPad... like 3.2 was exclusively for the iPad. I could see the Dev Team waiting for 4.2 to try to use a common exploit for both 4.1 and 4.2 if this is Apple's strategy to keep them separate. Either way, looks like we probably have to wait until November for a jailbreak.

Nick - September 8, 2010 at 2:55pm
I hope that isn't the case, I don't want to wait all the way until November for a jailbreak for 4.1

4.2 isn't just for the iPad. It is the version that is supposed to unify all the iOS devices.
David
David - September 8, 2010 at 3:34pm
Let's hope you are correct. Where did you read that the iPad and iPhone iOSs were going to be unified? If you read Saurik's iPad jailbreak message in Cydia, the firmwares are very different.

I'm pretty sure he means the base features will be the same between the devices. Right now the iPad is still on 3.x, whereas the iPhone and iPod Touch are on 4.x. So he's probably saying that with 4.2, the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch will all be on the same version and will have the same base feature set.

Just quoting from what I remember of the last Jobs' speech. As far as I remember Jobs said something like "iOS 4.2 will be out in November, and it's for the iPhone and iPad". Feel free to review his speech and correct me if I'm wrong. I could be wrong.
Nick
Nick - September 8, 2010 at 4:36pm
I remember Jobs saying that as well. I wonder if they'll be adding in more features for the iPhone as well with the 4.2 update.

The new exploit is a boot exploit. If a jailbreak is created with it, all phoned jailbroken with it can always be jailbroken. Apple can't block it. They have to change the bootrom of the iphone 4 like they did on the 3GS to stop it on the new phones. My point is, i don't think they are waiting for 4.2. It will be released if it's ready.

Seems that this upgrade new features really woth Dev Team's effort to come up with a jailbreak! I just can't wait!

Really? I can't see any feature that I have ANY interest in... What features float your boat???? Just a bunch of boring social-network-gaming blah-beddi-blah-blah, and some bug fixes I haven't even experienced.

You're one person Rob, not the majority of people. I've been waiting for the added bluetooth streaming audio controls and the proximity sensor bug fix the most. The new High Dynamic Range photos also look pretty cool so I really want to try that.

Does HDR really suck? I just think the fact that it combines 3 pics (with different exposures so in different light situations the picture doesn't just grab one perspective of light) would create a better picture than just having the iPhone camera focus on one light source. I don't own a digital camera anymore and don't feel like buying one because my iPhone can do everything I need it to now (especially with the great video recording on the iPhone 4) so I just look forward to any increase in the quality of the photography.

bob53366 - September 8, 2010 at 5:06pm
Well, there's one thing at which HDR doesn't suck: Night-time architectural photography. But for other things, think about it. How ofter can you get your kids to stand perfectly still - in the exact same pose without moving a muscle - long enough to take several pictures in a row without any movement? How often can you get your friends to do that? And for that matter, how often can you hold your hand that still? What about if you're in a car? Or not so steady on your hand? Are you going to carry a camera stand around? I don't think so... :) I have a $10000 Nikon D3x (and a D3s), and I NEVER use HDR. (And I'm a photographer by trade. :)

Nick - September 8, 2010 at 5:49pm
I see what you mean, I guess I just misunderstood how it worked. I thought that the pictures were taken very quickly, one right after the other. In my way of thinking, even though there might have been a little difference because of people moving, the software would correct the movement and then adjust the colors and lighting. Seeing that you're a photographer for a living and you own a $10k camera I'm just gonna go ahead and take your word for it. How does it work on still objects though when your holding the camera in your hands? I'm just curious to try it out myself I guess.
bob53366
bob53366 - September 9, 2010 at 10:30am
I guess that depends on how fast the camera shots the pictures, how many pictures it takes, and how steady your hands are. Presumably an iPhone camera can shoot its pictures faster since there are no moving parts and the pictures are tiny, not like the 50 MB RAW pictures of a D3x. :)

Can't wait for the devs to jailbreak this so I can update my iPhone. I still don't understand why Apple isn't including the game center with the iPhone 3g.
