Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone may feature a significantly improved internal display thanks to a new manufacturing process and integrated touch sensor, according to a report from yeux1122 on Naver.
The leak claims the display will use a process not previously employed in Samsung's foldable devices—designed to meet Apple's specific standards for thickness, power efficiency, and brightness. Apple is also said to be pursuing new branding or trademarks related to this technology.
To help make the device thinner and lighter, the touch sensor is reportedly being integrated directly into the display panel. This approach is said to cut component thickness by about 19% compared to Samsung's Z Fold parts. It could also allow Apple to achieve a more traditional 'bar-type' feel when the device is unfolded.
Besides the structural benefits, the new process is also expected to deliver noticeable improvements in color accuracy and brightness – both for peak highlights and general viewing – making for a better overall picture.
Interestingly, the leak suggests that Samsung's recent effort to reduce the thickness of its Fold 7 may have been driven, at least in part, by internal preparations to meet Apple's component supply requirements.
