Sony has introduced new WH-1000XM6 wireless noise-canceling headphones, featuring a new processor, additional microphones, and updated sound tuning.
The WH-1000XM6 headphones incorporate a new HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3, which Sony states is seven times faster than the chip in the previous model. These headphones utilize twelve microphones, an increase from the WH-1000XM5, to assist in real-time sound analysis for noise cancellation. Sony's Adaptive NC Optimizer is also included, designed to adjust noise canceling precision based on external noise and air pressure, alongside a specially designed driver unit tuned for enhanced noise cancellation. The Auto Ambient Sound mode has been updated for more accurate real-time adaptation to surroundings, and users can manually adjust settings through the Sony | Sound Connect app.
For sound quality, Sony collaborated with mastering engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering, including Randy Merrill, Chris Gehringer, Mike Piacentini, and Michael Romanowski. The headphones feature a specially designed driver unit with a high rigidity carbon fiber composite material dome and a uniquely developed voice coil structure. The WH-1000XM6 supports High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless via LDAC, and DSEE Extreme™ technology is used to upscale compressed digital music files. The Sony | Sound Connect app offers a 10-band EQ, a Background Music Effect, a Game EQ developed with input from Sony's INZONE gaming brand, and a 360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema feature.
Call clarity is addressed with an advanced six-microphone AI-based beamforming system designed to isolate the user's voice from background noise. A dedicated button allows for instant muting.
In terms of design, the WH-1000XM6 features a soft fit wider headband with synthetic leather. The earpads use a stretchable material intended for a secure fit while reducing pressure and blocking external noise. The folding mechanism is crafted using advanced metal injection, and the compact case now includes a magnetic closure. Controls consist of tactile buttons and a responsive touch panel.
New smart features include Scene-based Listening, which uses sensing technology to automatically play music and adjust noise cancellation based on user activity, environment, and location. Quick Access and Scene-based Listening can connect with services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music. The headphones support LE Audio for low latency, AuraCast for broadcasts, and feature Multi-Point and Auto Switch for seamless device switching. Users can also listen while charging via USB.
Battery life is rated at up to 30 hours with noise canceling active, and a three-minute charge is said to provide approximately three hours of playback.
Sony highlighted environmental considerations, noting the WH-1000XM6 packaging is made from 100% paper materials, utilizing Sony's Original Blended Material composed of bamboo, sugarcane fibers, and post-consumer recycled paper.
The WH-1000XM6 headphones are available now in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue. The suggested retail price is $449.99 USD. They can be ordered at the link below...
