Apple's long-rumored foldable iPhone is coming into sharper focus, thanks to fresh insights from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In a recent post on X and an accompanying blog update, Kuo outlines the device's expected pricing, specifications, and production details, offering a compelling preview of what could be Apple's next big leap in smartphone design.
According to Kuo's latest industry survey shared on X, Bright Laser Technologies (BLT) could play a pivotal role by supplying critical components—the hinge cover and middle frame, both crafted from titanium alloy. The hinge cover is notably thin, while the middle frame involves intricate hollow-out designs, both requiring advanced 3D printing technology.
Currently, BLT's combined unit price for these titanium components is between 800-900 RMB, with expected reductions to 400-600 RMB as mass production and yields improve. Kuo estimates that if Apple reaches its target shipment of 20 million foldable iPhones by 2027, with BLT supplying roughly 80% of these components, BLT could earn approximately 8 billion RMB, significantly increasing from its 2024 revenue of about 1.2 billion RMB.
Kuo also predicts Apple's foldable iPhone will enter the premium smartphone market priced between $2,000 and $2,500. The device is expected to feature a book-style design with a crease-free 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. Notably, Touch ID may return integrated into the side button, due to internal space constraints possibly limiting Face ID.
The foldable iPhone could measure approximately 9–9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5–4.8mm unfolded. The hinge will incorporate both stainless steel and titanium alloy, with the outer casing also crafted from titanium alloy. Additionally, the device might utilize the same high-density battery cells as the upcoming ultra-thin iPhone 17.
Camera specifications include a dual-lens rear setup complemented by a single front-facing camera usable in both folded and unfolded states.
Apple is projected to finalize specifications in the second quarter of 2025, with an official project launch in Q3 2025 and mass production starting in Q4 2026. Initial shipment estimates for the first-generation foldable model are set at 3–5 million units in 2026, rising to potentially 20 million units by 2027 when including the second-generation device.
While these details paint an exciting picture, they remain predictions until Apple makes an official announcement. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for the latest details on Apple's upcoming devices!
