Apple is gearing up to roll out a new in-house Wi-Fi chip for its iPhone 17 models, according to a fresh report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a post on X today, Kuo predicted that Apple will swap out Broadcom's Wi-Fi chips across the entire iPhone 17 lineup.

Following Qualcomm, Broadcom's Wi-Fi chips will also be replaced by Apple's in-house chips at a faster pace. My latest industry survey indicates that all new 2H25 iPhone 17 models will feature Apple's in-house Wi-Fi chips (vs. only the slim iPhone 17 will adopt Apple's C1 modem chip). Beyond cost reduction, the switch to in-house Wi-Fi chips will enhance connectivity across Apple devices.

Yesterday, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e, marking a milestone with the introduction of its first in-house C1 5G modem. The company touted the modem's ability to provide fast, reliable 5G connectivity with improved power efficiency. Industry speculation indicates the C1 may next appear in the anticipated iPhone 17 Air, though its adoption in standard and Pro models is not expected until 2026.

The shift to in-house Wi-Fi and modem chips offers Apple significant benefits, including greater control over hardware-software integration and reduced reliance on external suppliers such as Broadcom and Qualcomm. This approach mirrors the company's successful transition to Apple Silicon for its Mac lineup, promising optimized performance and efficiency. For users, this could translate to more seamless interactions across iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices.

Moreover, developing its own chips positions Apple to achieve long-term cost efficiencies and mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities—an increasingly critical factor in today's market. This development aligns with the company's ongoing pursuit of vertical integration, a strategy that has consistently strengthened its product offerings.

The iPhone 17 series, expected in the second half of 2025, will be a key test for Apple's in-house wireless technologies. If successful, the iPhone 18 will likely feature both in-house cellular and Wi-Fi chips.
