iPhone 16 Pro Models to Feature 'M14' OLED Panels [Report]

Samsung will supply Apple with OLED panels for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max that use new materials, collectively known as 'M14,' report The Elec. These organic materials in determine the display's color, lifespan, and brightness.

It is understood that Apple's iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, to be released in the latter half of the year, will also feature the M14 material set. The iPhone 16 series will come in four models: a 6.1-inch standard model, a 6.7-inch Plus model, a 6.3-inch Pro model, and a 6.9-inch Pro Max model. Samsung Display will supply panels for all four models, with the new M14 materials being used in the Pro and Pro Max models, while the standard and Plus models will use the previous generation M12 materials.

The M14 material set is Samsung's most advanced offering and is said to produce higher performance in terms of brightness and lifespan. Duksan Neolux will purportedly provide the red and green emitting materials, Red Prime and Green Prime, as well as the auxiliary material Hole Transport Layer (HTL). Samsung SDI will supply the Green Host, and LG Chem will supply the Hole Blocking Layer (a-ETL) and the Electron Transport Layer (ETL).


This report aligns with an earlier leak from Instant Digital that said the iPhone 16 Pro would feature a 20% brighter display. That could put the iPhone 16 Pro at 1200 nits of standard brightness.
