Apple has purportedly renewed talks with OpenAI over use of the company's technology to power some new features in iOS 18, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
The two companies have begun discussing terms of a possible agreement and how the OpenAI features would be integrated into Apple's iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private.
Apple allegedly began talking to OpenAi about a deal earlier this year; however, contact between the companies had been minimal since then. The company has also been in discussions with Google to license its Gemini AI technology for integration into iPhone.
At this point, Apple has yet to make a final decision on who it will partner with. It could reach an agreement with either company, or both. The company has its own in-house large language model that can generate human-sounding text; however, it's seeking partner to power a chatbot-like feature.
We'll get a better idea of what Apple has planned for iOS 18 when the company unveils a beta of the software at its Worldwide Developers Conference in May. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for updates.
