Anker Announces Prime Thunderbolt 5 Dock: 120 Gbps Speed, Built-In GaN Power

Anker has unveiled a new Prime Thunderbolt 5 Docking Station, along with a companion Thunderbolt 5 cable. It's one of the first docks built specifically around the new Thunderbolt 5 standard, aimed squarely at Mac users and other pros who need serious throughput for demanding tasks.

The new dock boasts bandwidth up to 120 Gbps. That's triple the speed of Thunderbolt 4. This throughput enables support for demanding setups like dual 8K displays or connecting other high-performance external devices. For ports, it has one upstream Thunderbolt 5 connection for your Mac, plus two downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports for peripherals or daisy-chaining.




When it comes to video, Anker included both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 ports. The dock is smart enough to automatically detect and activate the first display you plug in. Keep in mind, while it can handle up to two external displays, the actual resolution and number supported will depend on your specific Mac model's capabilities.

A standout feature here is the integrated Gallium Nitride (GaN) power supply. This means no clunky external power brick cluttering your desk. The dock provides up to 232W total power output for your connected gear and takes in up to 250W.

The dock itself has an aluminum alloy body and features adjustable ambient lighting. Anker also built in a cooling system with a U-shaped air duct, turbo fan, and smart thermal controls to manage heat and maintain stable performance. Firmware updates are handled via the Anker Dock Manager software.
