Qualcomm CEO Cristiano R. Amon revealed today that the company expects Apple to launch its own 5G modem in 2024.
Speaking to Joanna Stern at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Amon is quoted as saying, "we expect that Apple will do their own modem in 2024 but if they need ours they know where to find us."
Notably, this aligns with a recent report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who says that Apple plans to release a new iPhone SE 4 with an in-house 5G modem. However, Kuo is uncertain if the modem will make its way to the iPhone 16 next year.
Amon also discussed Qualcomm's upcoming chip for PCs. He said you should think of the SoC as an "Apple compete for the Microsoft ecosystem". The company has not announced the name of the chip yet; however, it will be unveiled in September/October with devices to follow at CES 2024.
