Chinese display maker BOE has landed an order to supply Apple with 20 - 25% of the 6.1-inch OLED displays for its upcoming iPhone 14, reports MyDrivers. This is estimated at around 50 million units.
Previously, BOE has supplied Apple with panels for sale or repair of previous generation devices but this would mark the first time it will provide panels for a current generation model. The remaining 75% of displays for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14; as well as, screens for the iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will likely be supplied by Samsung and LG.
BOE is purportedly planning to build an 8.6-generation OLED display panel production line at its B16 factory in Sichuan. The production line should be operational by the end of 2024. The company hopes to supply Apple with panels for future iPad and MacBook models as well.
Additionally, the report says that BOE is working to achieve mass production of double-layer tandem structure OLED displays with production set to start in the second half of this year. Apple is allegedly planning to use this type of display for future iPad models.
