Apple may not bring under display Touch ID to the iPhone in 2023 or 2024, according to a new report from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The analyst had previously predicted under display Touch ID by as early as 2022; however, his latest research indicates that seems unlikely.
I previously predicted iPhones would support under-display fingerprint sensing/Touch ID in 2023 at the earliest. But the latest survey indicates new iPhones in 2023 & 2024 may not adopt under-display Touch ID. Face ID with a mask on iPhone is already a great biometrics solution.
Apple's recent mobile software update, iOS 15.4, finally brings support for Face ID while wearing a mask, a feature that was missing during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. With its release, Apple may no longer feel the need to release under display Touch ID, favoring Face ID instead.
