iDongle is a prototype piece of hardware able to boot your jailbreaked device (a.k.a "tethered boot"), and optionally jailbreak and hacktivate it if not already done.
Renaud, a graduated Electronics Engineer decided to work on the dongle after being frustrated with his tethered jailbreak.
"Last time, it hang, and I had to wait the end of noon to back home in order to boot it tethered… I decided to work on a piece of hardware, able to hacktivate my iPhone everywhere, starting with some evaluation boards available around. Go !"
The prototype PCB features a mini-USB connector for upgrade and a male 30-pin connector (extreme right) to connect to your iPhone/iPod Touch for jailbreak/tethered boot. It is 60×30mm in size and uses a 9v battery for power since the 3.3v from the dock isn’t available under iBoot.
Renaud is planning to start a little production run for these dongles and asks those interested to donate first, then when ordering their donation will be subtracted from the cost of the dongle. If he can't raise enough money the donations will be refunded.
"Don’t expect prices below 10€, the bill of material, including PCB, is about 22€ each (VAT included) for a 50 pieces batch, and it’s not yet mounted… 30€ could be a good price ?"
The iDongle would come in handy for anyone with a iPhone 3GS made after week 40 (2009), an iPod Touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC”, or an iPod Touch 3G.
please wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this dongle work for now only for V3.1.2 , and what about V3.1.3 , and very soon V3.2 and .........................V4.0 . That mean it is useless unless the dongle firmware is updateable.
Did you pull this out of the Archives :P
Anyways, I've already mentioned the 9volt battery is common, but heavy and large. I would have used a Security Battery like the MN27. It's much much smaller. I was also hoping these would be made smaller and include enclosures. But it's better then nothing, and a dam fine piece of craftsmanship.
